The Chief of Army Staff, General J J Singh laid the foundation stone for a group housing scheme of 648 apartments for Indian Army personnel here on Tuesday.
Under the auspices of the Army Welfare Housing Organisation, the 648 apartments will be constructed in Sectors 22 and 23 at Dwarka, an upcoming suburb in south-west Delhi.
Spread over 10.5 acres of land, these apartments would range from two bedroom flats to penthouses. Each penthouse may cost around Rs. 45 lakhs.
After performing rituals as per Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian scriptures, General Singh inaugurated this project.
"Financial security is one of most important things. We want that our soldiers and officers have no anxiety after retirement with respect to the housing of their families. We are trying to fulfill their housing needs by giving a house for those who want it under the Army Welfare Housing Scheme," said General Singh.
The apartments constructed by AWHO will be on a no-profit no-loss basis. The AWHO has completed similar projects in NOIDA, Gurgaon and Faridabad. It has also executed projects in 20 other cities such as Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
