Few takers for DDA plots

ALMOST a month after a hotel plot at the Sarojini Nagar-Chanakyapuri junction was sold for a whopping Rs 611 crore, three hotel plots auctioned by the DDA today fetched just Rs 44.28 crore. Seven other plots which had been put to auction found no bidders at all.

DDA officials said the location of the plots had played a crucial factor. The plot sold last month by the National Buildings Construction Corporation is at a prime location well connected with IGI Airport and the embassies while most of the DDA plots sold today were not “well-located”.

One of those sold was a hotel plot at the Sub-District Centre in Hari Nagar; the other two are located in Vivek Vihar. The 1,500 sq m Hari Nagar plot had a reserve price of Rs 15.62 crore and was bought for Rs 15.65 crore by Gujral Tours and Travels. One Vivek Vihar plot was bought by Perfect Learning Private Limited for Rs 14.644 crore while another was bought by Kunal Food Products for Rs 14.002 crore. The plots are 1,688 sq m each and had a Rs 13.83 crore reserve price.

Two hotel plots at Hari Nagar Sub-district Centre, another two at Vivek Vihar Community Centre and one each at Shastri Park, Rohini and Anand Vihar had no takers. The plot at Rohini Twin District Centre had the largest area of 7,833.57 sq m and the highest reserve price of Rs 131.16 crore; it had found no takers in an auction last December either.

DDA officials say they hope the plots to be auctioned tomorrow will fare better. The plots to be auctioned are two plots in Dwarka, three at the Community Centre, Mandawali Fazalpur, one each at the District Centre, Paschim Vihar and at the Dwarka City Centre, sector 10 as well as two hotel plots at the Mayur Vihar District Centre.

Officials say over a lakh tourists are expected in the capital during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. According to estimates, around 40,000 hotel rooms will be required while Delhi currently has only 10,000 rooms.
