ROADS AND CHOWKS NEED PROPER NAMES FOR EASY IDENTITIFATION

M K Gupta
Now we have to do lot of explaining to make a person understand a particular spot / address in Dwarka as most of the Chowks (crossings) and roads are without proper names. Some roads have been given numbers instead of names and the number is comparably difficult to remember than name.

I suggest that the Chowks should be given name of the Apartments situated in its corner with the maximum number of flats. The successful acceptance of the names of Ashirwad Chowk near the Ashirwad Apartments, K.M. Chowk next to K.M. Apartments and Janaki Chowk close to Janaki Apartments have prompted to give this suggestion. This will also help the DTC in publishing route map with proper names of the stands for its Circular Sewa and other services on the cards in future. Even after over a year - Dwarka, wherein Shahid Mohan Chand Sharma resided, who laid his life for the nation catching terrorists, lacks any spot after his name. I suggest that the road and crossing in front of or near his residence should be named as Shahid Mohan Chand Shrama Chowk and also his statue should be installed there. Poet Makhan Lal Chaturvedi has in his poem ‘Phool ki Antim Ichha’ rightly said ‘Mujhe Tod Lena a vanmali, us path par tum dena Phank, matrabhumi par shish chadane jis path par jaye veer anek. (Hey gardner, pluck me and throw me on the way on which the brave soldiers will pass through for offering their heads for their motherland).

Sector 6/10 intersections can be named as Khel Parisar Chowk as the Khel Parisar is the biggest and well-known landmark on this intersection. DDA’s Akashardham pocket in Sector 19 runs from one intersection to the other and an intersection near these Apartments can be named as Akashardham Chowk. MCD and probably the DDA also have Committees for naming the areas. After the naming of these spots properly, the names should be displayed conspicuously.

I request the Dwarkaites to give more suggestions on this proposal and after arriving at a consensus; the final proposal may be prepared for action.
