Passage for Dwarka onward

Kalyani Banerjee

The flyover at Dabri crossing will be a relief for the residents of Dwarka. This flyover is long awaited. For south Delhi will it be a smooth passage? This is a big question as there are four red lights on the way from Dabri flyover to Sagarpur flyover. The red lights at Janak Cinema, two at Sagarpur and the last is at D-block Janakpuri. After opening of the Pankha Road flyover traffic movement will be practically non-stop on Pankha Road particularly from Dabri to Sagarpur flyover. The four red lights on this stretch to Sagarpur flyover will create traffic congestion.

Beside the four red lights, the whole Sagarpur area from Hari Nagar Police Station upto D-block, Janakpuri the footpath is unauthorisedly occupied and parked with vehicles, hawkers, rickshaws, etc. will add to the traffic chaos. At present due to closure of Janak Setu the situation is quite gruesome but is well handled by traffic cops. What will happen in future with the opening of Dabri flyover one can easily expect. It is time authorities chalk out a plan for smooth movement of traffic on the Pankha Road upto Sagarpur flyover.

A slip road from the Pankha road flyover to the Palam Dabri Road is for the convenience of traffic moving towards Dwarka, Delhi Airport and Gurgaon. Some unauthorized structures at the slip road site is hampering smooth movement of traffic and may hamper timely completion of the slip road.

The present traffic volume going to Dwarka from Pankha Road is very voluminous as it is also connecting to Delhi Airport and Gurgaon.

Delhi Metro in Phase III is covering the Palam Dabri, Nasirpur, Dasrathpuri area. But in addition Palam Dabri road needs to be broadened by clearing the road blocks by removing the unused BSES & telephone poles, unauthorized parking, hawkers, etc. The Palam Dabri Road is the shortest route to Dwarka flyover from Pankha Road. With operation of the Pankha Road flyover and covering of Palam (Sitapuri) drain, the Palam Dabri road will become a mess and its broadening is utmost necessary.
