There has been a noticeable change in the environment over a couple of decades. The soaring maximum and the dipping minimum temperatures in Delhi, the increase in the population of mosquitoes, young children suffering from breathing disorders, the water woes and the rising levels of all kinds of pollution are matters of grave concern. Alarm bells are ringing and one can’t wait to react till the situation aggravates further.
Greenlco Eco Group, a non-profit company, addresses such environmental issues. It proposes to sensitize people about the damage being caused to the environment and the means to tackle it. To begin with, the organization initiated a plantation drive in Sector 14, Om Apartment, Dwarka on 5 June, 2013, on the occasion of the World Environment Day. This step involved residents, especially children.. They pledged to nurture the saplings they planted. “The idea is to bond with; establish a relationship with the environment and feel for it”, said Mr. Kapil Kishore, one of the Directors of the company. It may be a baby step but it would definitely stimulate the emotions of caring and sharing in the children and motivate them to feel responsible towards the degrading environment ”, he added. A painting competition/ poster making competition for children preceded the plantation drive. The participation of the children was overwhelming. They enthusiastically put their ideas on paper in vibrant colours and each one of them displayed a spirited involvement planting the saplings.
The problems to be dealt with are innumerable and they would all be taken up one at a time in different parts of Delhi. The youth have a major role to play. Greenlco plans to engage schools, colleges & organizations through various activities and campaigns to dispense their share of service to the nation. Anyone who wishes to join can be a member volunteer and get involved in the movement “Kuchh Country Ke Liye Karein!”
