| Legendary film heroine Kamini Kaushal and Sakha Chairman Amarjit Singh Kohli pay homage to Mannadey |
Rich tributes were paid by oldest film heroine of India Kamini Kaushal (86 years) at a Condolence Meet held by cultural society SAKHA in conjunction with PECOBA on 27th Oct forenoon at Pyarelal Bhawan to mourn the death of legendary singer Mannadey. Recalling her meetings with Mannadey who was 8 years elder to her, she said that not only was Mannadey one of the best versatile singers, but was a simple person having a golden heart. In film Upkar (1967), Mannadey’s song “Kasme Vaade Pyaar Wafa” picturised on Pran with Kamini Kaushal in view, was one of her favourites.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Amarjit Singh Kohli, founder Chairman Sakha and founder Gen Secy, Pecoba said that Kamini Kaushal has been in films for the last 67 years which is a record. Her first film was Chetan Anand’s “Neecha Nagar, 1946” and her latest movie was “Chennai Express, 2013”. He regretted that despite her unique and unparalleled contribution to film industry no national award has been given to her although film artistes who came two generations later got Padmashrees.
On this occasion Kamini Kaushal presented PECOBA AWARDS which are given to outstanding PEC Alumni were given to Nand Kishore Aggarwal (Founder & CMD of Action Shoes) and Dhanpat Singh(IAS, Principal Secy to Govt of Haryana). Kamini Kaushal also presented SAKHA AWARDS to art culture promoter Dr Harish Bhalla, and musician Tarun Biswas. For contributions in field of education two Sakha Awards were given, one to national award winner Misri Devi of Chandigarh for her contributions in educating rural children and second award to The Heritage School, Gurgaon for excellence in methodology of teaching.

Prof Manoj Arora, Director, PEC University of Technology (Earlier called Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh) said there was a common link between PEC and Kamini Kaushal. Legendary Kamini Kaushal was born in 1927 in Lahore and brought up there, and the Maclagan College of Engineering which was predecessor of PEC was also established in Lahore in 1921.
Presidents and Secretaries of about 20 cultural institutions of Delhi and Mumbai felicitated Kamini Kaushal for completing 67 years in films.
The Function was followed by a program of live singing of songs from films of Kamini Kaushal entitled “Kamini Kaushal Ke Kaushal” by top singers of NCR, compered jointly by Kamini Kaushal herself, SK Jha and Amarjit Singh Kohli under orchestration of Tarun Biswas.
