IRF WELCOMES DELHI TRAFFIC POLICE DRIVE ON LANE DRIVING SUGGESTS USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND DEVICES FOR ENSURING LANE DRIVING

Mr K K Kapila Chairman , International Road Federation (IRF) has welcomed the move by Delhi Traffic police to enforce lane driving at major intersections in the city from today , Monday, February 23.

IRF has also welcomed the decision of the Traffic police to deploy policemen on motorcycles and interceptor vehicles to enforce and prosecute lane changers.

“As Delhi drivers are considered the most undisciplined , the challenge of Delhi police will be great and forcing the motorists especially two wheeler drivers within the lane marking as well as negotiate safe lane changes , maintain safe following distance and minimize the effects of blind accident road spots in the capital.” said Mr Kapila.

“Hogging the fast lane, repeatedly changing lanes and poor lane discipline are common, thoughtless behaviours of Delhi motorist “said Mr Kapila.

“World wide inbuilt lane keeping aids and technologies are part of the passenger vehicle as well as lane violation cameras used by the traffic police. Delhi police should also use technology as well as launch campaign to enforce the lane driving.”said MR Kapila.

“A demonstration stretch of about 16 KM road stretch between India Gate and Badarpur Border, which is part of the National Highway -2 passing through Bhogal and Ashram chowk will soon have latest traffic and junction management gadgets ,traffic control systems and lane violation check camera’s to become country’s first road for smooth traffic and safe mobility .Lane Driving will be strictly enforced here”said Mr Kapila .

The 16 KM stretch will be developed by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) under its ongoing ‘Integrated Road Safety Initiative’ in India. As per the agreement the Austrade will develop this demonstration stretch providing and installing Junction management gadgets, speed measurement devices, variable electronic message sign boards, lane violation check camera’s linked with mini control system for appropriate monitoring of the traffic on the demo stretch. Besides these latest gadgets, the latest traffic control devices for smooth flow of traffic and road safety and safe mobility will also be installed making it the first of its kind in the country ”said Mr K K Kapila, Chairman, International Road Federation.
