Ministry of Women and Child Development and Tata Institute of Social Sciences Felicitated Succeful Women

Ministry of Women and Child Development and Tata Institute of Social Sciences organized a Felicitation Program Showcasing Success Stories of Women belonging to Urban Slums empowered by Skill Training.

Ministry of Women and Child Development and Tata Institute of Social Sciences in association with Apar India Foundation and Indian Institute of Public Administration organized a grand Felicitation program “Showcasing Success Stories of Women” from the study conducted on Economic Empowerment of Women: Promoting Skill Training in Urban Slums in India at IIPA, Delhi. The Ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries – Honourable Sh. Vinay Sahasrabudhhe, National Vice President, BJP, Honourable Minister of State. Smt Krishna Raj, MWCD, Prof. S. Parasuraman, Director Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Dr. Medha Somaiya, TISS Chair Professor, Smt. Supriya Saxena, Assistant Director, MWCD, Sh. R. K. Jain, President of India Awardee, Chairman Apar India Foundation and Prof. K. K. Dubey, Coordinator IIPA.

The program was inaugurated by Honourable Sh. Vinay Sahasrabudhhe, by lighting the lamp. He also unveiled the report prepared by Dr. Medha Somaiya on the study conducted on Economic Empowerment of Women by promoting Skill Training in the Urban Slums. Addressing the gathering he appreciated the dedication of Dr. Medha Somaiya, TISS Chair Professor, for being active in bringing about Economic Empowerment of Women through promoting Skill Training in Urban Slums. He said that unless and until the women of the nation become economically independent, the Nation cannot progress towards the path of prosperity.

Dr. Medha Somaiya, TISS Chair Professor, presented the report to the audience specifying the need to take positive and progressive steps towards empowering woman economically residing in the Urban Slums. These woman faced mammoth trials and tribulations to overcome the challenges and Skill Training being provided to them assisted them in attaining financial independence. She reiterated that more and more emphasis should be given to providing door step skill development Training in order to make them financially independent.

The panel discussion chaired by Prof. S. Parasuraman also discussed the importance Skill Training. The panel comprised of Ms. Nayana Mallapurkar, Consultant, TISS, Mr. Sanjay, NSDC, Ms. Geetli, Director Vocational Training Partner.

Honourable Smt. Krishna Raj, Minister of State, MWCD, felicitated the women who had come from different parts of India and were the Showcase Success Story. She also felicitated the Vocational Training Partners who had been instrumental in bringing about the economic empowerment by providing Skill Training to the women in Urban Slums. Congratulating the candidates, the Honourable Minister of State said that this was just a beginning and a lot more has to be done to improve the condition of the women residing in the Urban Slums.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. R. K. Jain, Chairman Apar India Foundation – an organization working for Skill Development and Vocational Education, reiterated the need for Skill Training and the pivotal role played by the Skill Development Training provided by various Vocational Training Provider. He emphasized that in order to achieve economic independence, it is required to give opportunities to the women as well and it is only through taking them along that India can achieve success in its “Skill India Mission”.
