BECOMING GENDER SENSITIVE

In order to sensitize students on issues related to gender equality and rights, JMIS organized an event to sensitize students from grades IX and X regarding the same. Distinguished personalities from mass media, including journalists and celebrity astrologers, along with the Director and students from an NGO called Action India, came together to present their views on this gregarious topic.

Ms. Madhavi Shree, a blogger and a journalist, launched t-shirts at the event, which carried slogans related to gender equality. The same were worn by all the guests present on the occasion. Ms. Gauri Chaudhary, the director of Action India, also addressed the audience on the dire need to introspect and reflect upon the existing practices around us, and to consider both men and women as equals under all circumstances, and to respect each others' rights, choices and decisions.

The students from Action India sung an invigorating song, questioning the prevalent stereotypes, and also performed a street play to generate awareness by dramatizing issues from the world around us. This was coupled with a fashion show, where all the guests, Principal, students from Action India and JM International walked the ramp celebrating equality wearing the gender awareness t shirts. The day indeed had its premise in retrospection, learning from one another, celebrating uniqueness and diversity, and paying heed to all genders.
