Celebrating “SITA” as a symbol of Womanhood at Sh VIS Sector – 18, Dwarka

On 24th and 25th November the campus of Sri Venkateshwar International School was bubbling with festivity, joy and fervour marking the annual day of classes VII and VIII. Right from the invitation cards and decorations to the dress-code of the staff, one could sense the ethnicity of the cultural extravaganza that the audience would be treated with. The extent to which it would leave us spellbound, however, was unanticipated. Quoting the comperers, “this is the first time” that Sri VIS had “gathered enough courage to invite Lord Venkateshwar, and hence, the overwhelming feeling” was that the school had, on its Annual Day 2017, ‘come into being’. They indeed stood true to their belief. The invocation dance, without a doubt, was one that could give professional performances a run for their money, had as its capstone the coming of the formidable looking Lord Venkateshwar on stage.

Before the spectacle, however, the guests and the audience were welcomed by the school Symphony Orchestra, which presented an eclectically beautiful piece entitled ‘Rhythm of Joy’. The harmonious ensemble, set to ‘Raag Bheempalaasi’, was an avant-garde fusion of Indian and western classical music, including shades of Waltz, blended with Asian and Ethnic beats.

Ahead of the day’s main production was the school Principal, Miss Nita Arora’s presentation of the Annual Report, which showcased how in the previous year Sri VIS had added even more countless feathers to its already lavish cap.

The highlight of the show was the musical-ballet entitled ‘Sita- Nareetva ka Parichaayak’. The play centered on women empowerment, making the viewers think about the space that women has in the society. The drama saw an adapted narration of ‘The Ramayana’, being set against the backdrop of contemporary village life, and introducing elements such as the ‘Sutradhaars’ or the narrators addressing the audience, agit-prop theatrical device of the protagonist – here Sita - directly questioning the spectators. It highlighted the strength of “SITA” as a woman and asked society to honour women folk.

The Chief Guest for the first day, Major General (Retd.) Pramod Kumar Saigal, was all praise for the school, expressing that it was amongst the best annual events that he had witnessed in schools the world over. Cinestar Mrs. Alka Chatwal, the Chief Guest on the second day, was equally glad to have witnessed the show if not more, saying that the actor in her wanted to be a part of the play as she watched it. The guest and the audience responses left the SVIS family satiated and glad, providing further encouragement and excitement to come up with something even grander for the next year.

Historic Proposal Floated to Declare River Ganga as UNESCO World Heritage Site

In a meeting today with HH Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, a historic proposal was put forward to Hon’ble Union Cultural Minister, Shri Mahesh Sharma, to declare the River Ganga a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Recently, the Kumbha Mela, which takes place in two locations on the Ganga, was formally recognized on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Recognizing the Ganga itself for its cultural heritage would be an important next step towards preserving the riverine system, which supports some 500 million human lives.

Said HH Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, President of Parmarth Niketan and Founder of Ganga Action Parivar, “for millennia, the River Ganga has been central to India’s cultural and religious heritage, sparking the rise of cities, the sonnets of poets, unrivalled architecture and passages of scripture. Now is time that it be recognized by UNSECO for its intrinsic importance to our world’s cultural inheritance.”

While crucial for life itself, the Ganga River is considered one of the most endangered in the world, due to over-extraction and pollution. Every day, some 3 billion litres of sewage and one billion litres of toxic chemicals contaminate the river, leading to patriotic calls to action for its revitalization from the highest levels of government.

The proposal was cordially presented to Hon’ble Shri Mahesh Sharmaji, who expressed his appreciation of the noble concept and noted that the Ganga represents an important cultural heritage for our nation and our world.

Prior to this meeting, the concept was discussed with the Executive Director of UNSECO, Ms. Irina Bokova, when she and Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji were in Istanbul for the World Humanitarian Summit.

Said Pujya Swamiji, “the Ganga gives the cultural touch to the world. From hut culture to high culture, can one imagine our nation without it? For this reason, now is the time it become formally recognized by UNESCO as irreplaceable to global heritage.”

IRF wins prestigious Prince Michael Road Safety Award for its Enhanced First Aid Training Programme in India

The International Road Federation (IRF Geneva & IRF India) has received the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award 2017 for its Enhanced First Aid Training Programme in India .

The prize was handed over to the International Road Federation (IRF) Chairman, Mr Kiran Kapila and Mrs Susanna Zammataro, IRF Executive Director at a special ceremony held at The Savoy in London on Tuesday 12 December in the presence of His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent.

Established in 1987 in the UK, the Prince Michael Award recognises annually, achievements and innovations in road safety from around the world. Each year, the most outstanding examples of international road safety initiatives are given public recognition through the scheme and the winners are invited to a Gala Presentation, hosted in London.

Since 2015, IRF has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen ‘’Pre-hospital’’ trauma care in India by developing skilled, competent and confident First Responders to intervene during the golden hour and increase survival rate of road accident victims. The Enhanced First Aid for Commercial Drivers (eFD) initiative aims at training drivers to recognize an emergency, call for help and provide a more comprehensive level of pre-hospital care

The Programme has already trained 12,000 commercial drivers in India and has now further developed into a certification programme on First Aid Trauma Care extended not only to drivers but also to bystanders and people working in the road side amenities.

“Given the shortages of ambulances, trained staff, infrastructure, systems and processes for providing emergency response services within the golden hour, the provision of first aid and trauma care to accident victims is often unduly delayed. The results of these delays reflect in higher traffic accident fatality rates, especially in low-income countries. These fatality rates can be reduced if appropriate and prompt first aid and trauma care is provided at the accident site itself” said Mr Kapila, IRF Chairman.

“We have started with drivers of commercial vehicles as they are ubiquitous users of road networks and witness road accidents from close proximity. They are thus, potential resources to play a vital role in providing immediate care as well as to transport the injured from the accident site to nearby health care facilities/trauma centres. We are delighted to be recognised with one of the most prestigious awards in our sector”added Mr Kapila.

“The eFD is a straightforward and practical approach, easily replicable in other parts of India and in the rest of the world. We are now ready to scale up the initiative counting on the precious support of public authorities and also the private sector” said Susanna Zammataro, IRF Executive Director.

Happy Birthday- Harsh Vardhan

Trekking & Adventure sports keeps you physically & mentally fit.

Recently, I have visited the most beautiful part of Himachal Pradesh i.e. Chamba District. Chamba valley is known for its scenic attractions, sparkling streams, lakes, meadows and luch deodar forests. Crowned with high mountain ranges, Its has rich in wildlife and animals like the elusive snow leopard, ibex, brown bear, and musk deer. Dalhousie is also very famous hill station of Chamba district.

It spread out over five hills like Kathlog, Potreys, Tehra, Bakrota & Balun. Its named after the 19th century British Governor General Lord Dalhousie. The town’s varying altitude Shades it with a variety of vegetation that includes stately grooves of pines, deodars, oaks and flowering rhododendrons. According to Father Pervez Egbert (Who is presently look after the church) St.John’s Church at Gandhi Chowk is the oldest church in Dalhousie established in 1863. Gandhi Chowk & Subhash Chowk are destination for the local transportation. Karenalu is the major & natural water source for entire Dalhousie & surrounding areas. Tourist Information Officer Mr. Surjeet Singh Thakur (who is with Himachal Tourism for the last 22 years) presently located at Dalhousie office says that May & June are best month but tourist come regularly and in December Tourist love to see the snowfall in the valley. Hotel Mani Mahesh & Geetanjli Hotel are quite famous in the town. Mr. Anil Mehta-Secretary of Dalhousie Club says that tourist love to visit this hill station throughout the year.

Dalhousie Public School, Sacred heart School, Guru Nanak public School & Hill Top School are quite famous schools of Dalhousie where local and other states children study.

The following are the major attractive spots of Dalhousie for the tourists:
Panjpulla-It is nearly 2 KM away from the town where a statue of freedom fighter/social activist Sardar Ajit Singh (Real uncle of Shaheed Bhagat Singh) is located. And a water fall & boating are the major attraction for the tourist.

Kalatop-It is 2440 meter above the sea level & around 8 KM away from the town and even has a good opportunity for the trekker to walk through the dense forest to reach Kalatope. According to Mr.Man Singh (who is caretaker of the Tourist Rest House at Kalatope) we have a provision for the stay here but it needs special permission from Chamba office to avail the facility. I also enjoyed the trek to Kalatope along with A grade officers of Education Department of Haryana Government.

Rock Garden-Himachal Tourism tried to develop a picnic spot here but presently its not properly maintained and the spot is being used as vehicle parking.

Khajjiar-It is really the most beautiful place of entire Himachal Pradesh. Its known as Mini Switzerland. It is 1960 meter above the sea level and only 22 KM away from Dalhousie by road.

A picturesque spot with an emerald saucer shaped meadow amidst a dense forest which even has a lake with floating island at its center & a golf course. According to Kishan Chand Rana Operator of Zorbing Rolling ball “ we charge Rs.300 for two person for single ride in the ball in the open ground surrounded by the beautiful trees. Horse riding is quite popular among the tourists in Khajjiar. It has almost 3KM radius around the spot.

How to reach Dalhousie
It is 555 KM away from Delhi by road. Pathankot is the Nearest Railway Station & Dalhousie is 85KM away by road.

I like to travel extensively whenever I found the opportunity, I am passionate about travelling, meeting Local people, culture and above all natural beauty of different parts of India. I am proud of my great nation.

Well Beginning
When I was only years old, I went to Vaishno Devi along with my mom, daddy and two brothers. As per my knowledge that the first trek of my life from Katra to Main Temple of Goddess Vishno Devi.At that time there were no lights and steps (proper path) but only rough trek. Every body was totally depended upon mules & horses to reach the destination but I trekked that distance on my own feet. After that During school days I was actively played Cricket but trekking was my passion. I even joined many camps with Scouts & Guides in the hills and even during college days trekked several places of Himalayan regions.

I got married
In 1993 and since 1994, I again trekked several destination even along with my wife and two kids during summers. Even on 30th May,2002 my Son created a unique record while climbing Gaumukh (12,770 ft. high above the sea level) from Gangotri. It was 36 KM trek Apart from this unique record I always fond of trekking in the interior of entire Himalayan regions.
 With 1st Mount Everester

Advantages of Trekking & Adventure Sports:
I think trekking & Adventure sports should be made compulsory in school and college curriculum. Because weekly trekking trip once a year makes the Students active, stout & sound health. It also brings self confidence, team building spirit, increase will power and even physical strength in the body.

Dalhousie a paradise on earth

(S.S.DOGRA)
