New Rashtriya Society Celebrated Independence Day


69th Independence Day was celebrated by New Rashtriya Society, Plot No. 15, Sector 18-A, Dwarka, on the 15th August, 2014, from 10.30 AM onwards. Initially, painting competitions were held for the children in three categories, i.e. Painting competition for children in the age group of 5 to 8 years, 8 to 10 years and 10 to 14 years. These painting competitions were over by 11.40 and thereafter, our National Flag was unfurled at 11.45 AM by Shri A.K. Parashar, President of the Society and it was followed by singing of National Anthem by one and all, which was further followed by distributions of sweets and cold drinks etc. Most of the members and many other residents of the Society had assembled in the court yard of our Society (along with their family members) in a very happy, elegantly dressed and in a gaiety mood. Small children upto the age of 8/10 were particularly enthusiastic about this celebration as they were very curious to know and experience to see for themselves as to how the events are going to take place. The young budding artists were really bubbling with energy and a lot of enthusiasm. The Painting Competition was sponsored by TATA AIG Life Insurance Company who provided all the painting material to the children and their two officials viz. Reema Verma and Noreen Rodrick also judged the award winning entries / paintings.

Then, cultural programme was started and many children sang patriotic songs eulogising the great freedom fighters of our country and who were the guiding forces and they sacrificed their lives for winning freedom for the masses. Some children recited small 2 poems and entertained / regaled the audience who had gathered there. Some small children like Anni, Nirvan Chandra, Tiya, Ananya, Shrishti, Arayan, Cheenu and Shiv recited / sang small poems in Hindi and English and were seen shouting slogans in high pitch like Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Jai Hind and Vande Matram etc., in a very enthusiastic manner and the spirit of patriotism was quite pervasive in their voices and faces. Rajesh Narang, Secretary of the Society, who was convener of the programme, also recited some couplets of an Urdu Poem Munawwar Rana in between the entire programme.

One senior lady, Mrs. Ragini Agashey sang a patriotic song whereby she emphasised the need for the spirit of nationalism. Then R.D. Bhardwaj recited a patriotic song - "Eh Mere Watan Ke Logo, Zara Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Pani, Jo Shaheed Huye Hain Unki, Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani”,which was followed by a Punjabi folk song by him - "Chitiyan Kapah Diyan Phutiyan Hada Ni Pat Hare-2 / Aakh Ni Nanane Tere Veer Nu Kade Tan Bhaida Haseya Kare......", and enthralled the audience. Sarsdar Manmohan Singh, another resident of the Society remembered Guru Gobind Singh ji and sang a devotional song / Hymn composed by Guru ji – “Mitr Piayre Nu Haal Mureedan Da Kehna”, which Guru Gobind Singh ji had written when he was fighting the evil forces of the Mughal Empire.

Ms. Iram Praveen also recited a small poem entitled “Waqt” written by her. Then, Mrs. Jyoti Mehta also sang a song and her daughter Aradhaya also recited a small poem in Hindi. Another small child, Nirvan Chandra sang a poem, “Nana Munna Rahi Hu, Desh Ka Sipahi Hun.........” which was followed by another small poem by a girl Anni.

Sports Events : Then some race events ( 50 Meters, 100 Meters and 200 meters) were conducted for children in 3/4 different age groups. Musical Chair and Lemon & Spoon Race were also conducted for the ladies. 200 Meters race was also conducted for senior men.

And lastly, prizes were distributed to all the winners of 1st and 2nd position. Shri A.K. Parashar, President of Society, gave away prizes to the prize winners. One senior lady Mrs. Ragini Agashey lamented that some people don’t take pains to come down from their flats and participate in this national festival. President of the Society also emphasised that Independence Day and Republic Day are our national festivals and all the residents of the Society should come out of the cosy atmosphere of their flats and celebrate these functions in a cordial and friendly manner, as such festivals promote the spirit of friendship, mutual trust, brotherhood and the spirit of nationalism also gets boosted.

Then President of the Society thanked all those members and employees of the Society who expended a helping hand in conducting the Independence Day programme and making this celebration a success. The function came to a close at 1.30 PM, which was followed by lunch.

Prize Winners : Shristi, Dev Malik, Tiya, Toshi, Shanvi, Vansh, Ishan Batra, Shiv, Anushka, Anni, Pranay, Mrs. Sushma and Mrs. Saroj Bakshi won the prizes in the games and events conducted by the Society (NRCGHS). Mr. Prashant Malik won first prize in 200 meters race for the seniors and Mr. Vinay Dhall won the second prize.
