Literary Day held in National Law University

28 November2017: A Literary Day was held at National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) Dwarka. This showcased the university’s holistic and humanistic approach towards the education of the law students. According to the organizer of the events, Prof. (Dr.) Prasannanshu all technical education should be imbued with elements of literature, and language to give a balanced outlook to the students and for their personality development. He hastened to add that such an approach is generally lacking in technical institutes in India, however NLUD is an exception as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ranbir Singh has a vision for holistic education and takes a personal interest in the promotion of such activities. Six plays viz. Antigone by Sophocles; God Sees the Truth But Waits by Tolstoy; The Merchant of Venice (The Courtroom Scene) by Shakespeare; The Benefit of the Doubt by Jack London;A Malefactor by Anton Chekhov; and the Great Trial of MK Gandhi were staged. Prof. B.T. Kaul, Chairperson, Delhi Judicial Academy was the Chief guest, and the guests of Honour were: Mrs. Neena Bansal Krishna, DHJS Director (Academics), Delhi Judicial Academy; Mr. Laxmi Kant Gaur, DHJS Director (Administration), Delhi Judicial Academy; Mrs. Cecil Kodian, and Mrs. Madhuri Varshney & Mr.S.S.Dogra-Mg.Editor-Dwarka Parichay & Founder Director of Creatives World Media Academy.




This was followed by a Poetry Workshop conducted by Prof. Prasannanshu in which he showed the participants how to write a poem. It was fascinating to see how scores of young people wrote their first poems engrossed in their world of feelings and imagination. Prof. Prasannanshu pointed out that writing poetry is akin to meditation. 


Several senior poets judged the poems, and declared the Hindi poem of Ms. Suchta,a research scholar from JNU as the best entry, and she won the first prize, followed by three English entries of NLU, Delhi students, viz.Vineet Kansotia (second prize), and AsthaGangwal and Shruti Srivastava who shared the third prize. The participants’involvement made this event a big success. 




A poetry meet was held just after this and it was chaired by Sh. Virendra Kumar Mansotra,and anchored by Dr. ChandramaniBrahmdatt, the poets on the dais who read their poems were Prof. Prasannanshu;Ms. SukhvinderKaru; Mr. Pankaj Sharma; Mr. Paramjeet Yadav; Sh. Ved Prakash KanwarJi; Mrs. SukhvarshKanwarTanha; Sh. Devanand Das; Dr. SandeshaRayapa; Prof. Shandar Ahmad; Dr. ChandramaniBrahmdatt; and Mr. Virendra Kumar Mansotra. A poetry collection ofMr. Virendra Kumar Mansotra, and the title of a book on the literary and theatre activities of NLU, Delhi was also released during the meet. The audience enjoyed the events and appreciated the young actors, and poets.
